Club Rides and Mileage Guidelines
Turn in all mileage and riders names to: Frank Heinzel (freewheelinfrank1@msn.com)

To qualify as a club mileage ride:
1. For ‘Non-Scheduled’ club rides there must be
at least 3 club members on 3 motorcycles.
2. Or the ride must be a Charity Run/Event (automatic min. 200
mi.), no min. club members.
3. Or the ride must be designated as a ‘Scheduled’
club ride, no min. club members.
4. Or the ride/event must be advertised or listed in a nationally
published magazine.
5. The group’s ride leader should collect riders names
and report the mileage.
6. Mileage is measured by the reporting rider from port to port.
If a rider has to leave the group or cut their ride short, that
rider should report his mileage as soon as possible to the ride
leader.
Open Rides/Breakfast Rides
At anytime there is not a ‘Scheduled’ club ride, it
will be considered an ‘Open Ride’ and will be refered
to mileage rule #1.
Open rides from Your Neighborhood Grill will meet for breakfast
on Sundays at 9:00am for the October-April rides, with rides leaving
sometime an hour later.
Awards
Mileage awards are awarded after an accumulation of 50k club miles
(plaque only), and thereafter at 100k club mile intervals (jacket
and plaque), at the annual club Christmas banquet.

Once again we've been invited to join the CMA to join in their
21st Annual Poker Run charity fundraiser. The Poker Run starts
at 9:00am so anyone wanting to join in should leave from Your
Neighborhood Grill at 7:00am and take the direct route down to
Canon City. anyone else wanting to just ride down to the Blossom
Festival, the ride will leave at 8:00am and take a longer more
scenic route down. The Poker Run starts and ends in Canon City.
The cost is a $ donation, and the grand prize a new set of motorcycle
tires of your choice. Free food & drink at the finish. Either
way both groups should make it down in time to catch the festival
parade, and the crafts fair. The ride home route will be left
up to the individual riders.

This was going to be a three day ride but for apparent lack of
particpation it was decided to make it a one day ride. We'll be
going South to the Air and
Space Museum at the Peterson AFB in Colorado Springs. The
museum is located within an 8.3 acre Colorado State Historic District.
Exhibits feature the WW II Peterson Army Air Base, the
Binational (United States and Canadian) North American Aerospace
Defense Command, US Air Force and Army Air Defense Commands, and
the US Air Force Space Command. The Museum's Airpark collection
includes sixteen aircraft and five missiles.
Due to security conditions, access to the Museum. is restricted
to visitors with military identification (active duty, retired,
or civilian employee) or I must provide the full names of any
adults (16 or older) in your party, the last six (6) digits of
their Social Security Numbers or passport numbers for foreign
visitors, and their Dates of Birth. On the day of our visit, all
adults must possess a valid government-issued photo identification
(such as a drivers license) to enter the base. Vehicle drivers
must also provide a current vehicle registration and proof of
insurance to the Visitor Center staff or security personnel for
visitor pass processing. By accepting the pass, you permit security
personnel to search your vehicle at any time you are on PetersonAFB.

PPE on base. I have extra reflective vests if anyone wants
to borrow one.
Because of the above mentioned security I need you to contact
me by May 12 if you plan on attending this ride and going on base.

Overland Trail. Some of us will be taking along trailers to carry
snacks, drinks and lawn chairs for sitting on at the theatre.

Colorado has a haunted past and we strive to uncover some of
it's more colorful places in this tour. After a scenic ride down
US-285 to Jefferson, then South past Tarryall Reservoir, the first
haunted stop will be Florissant at the Costello Street Coffee
House, then on to Cripple Creek to check out three haunted places:
the Fairley Bros. & Lamoman Building, the Imerial Hotel and
Casino, and lastly the Palace Hotel and Casino. From there we
head North to Divide and Back home via US-24 and I-25. Maybe we'll
get to see a ghost or two.

Annual Ladies Run of Colorado

The club has been involved with this run in one way or another
since its inception. currently, The club also sponsors the Long
Distance Lady Rider Trophy. The charities this year include the
South Park community Relief Fund, Project Safeguard, the Hep C
Connection, and Realities for Children. The ride up to Fairplay
includes a poker run, w/stops at the top of Crow Hill, then Como
for the ever popular Treasure Hunt, then ends up in Fairplay.
In Fairplay there is free camping at the Fairgrounds, a ride in
bike show, street bike only parking, street games, tattoo competition,
live music, 50/50's, trivia question prizes, vendors, and much
more. Saturday night there's the Ladies Run Dance at the Legion
Hut, where the trophy's from the days event s are presented, door
prizes, are given out, and games such as the Fun Buns, and the
Wooly Bully are held. Sunday's events will include a Dart &
Horseshoe competition, vendors and more prizes. Their web site

The scheduling of the Rio Grand route between
La Veta and Alamosa doesn't work well, so we have changed this
to a one-day ride. We'll take a route to Leadville including Hoosier,
Vail, and Tenessee passes in time for lunch before a trip on the
Leadville Colorado and Southern Rail Road. The train departs at
2:00pm for a 2 1/2 hour round trip north some 1,000 feet abouve
the Arkansas River Valley with spectacular views of Fremont Pass,
and Colorado's two tallest peaks, Mt. Massive and Mt. Elbert.
Cost for the train ride is $28.50. Call Bill for a reservation
or take you chances when you get there.

This is a hard one day ride to the Black Hills Motorcycle Classic
(better known as Sturgis). You will be riding almost 900 miles
for the day to "power shop" for motorcycle apparel.
On this ride we have seen it all in the last few years, but it's
always an adventure. Fuel & coffee stop in Cheyenne, WY, breakfast
in Lingle, WY at the Stage Coach, fuel stop in Lusk, WY, a break
if needed in New Castle, WY a short stop after running Spearfish
Canyon at the Spearfish, SD golf course, and then on into Sturgis.
Return to Denver time to be decided in Spearfish, Dinner in Torrington,
WY, and another fuel stop in Cheyenne, WY.

After doing this annual club fundraiser for 23 years you'd think
we'd have run out of routes that were not duplicates of previous
rides, but we still have a few tricks up our collective sleeves.
The longest running event of its kind, this years ride promises
to leave no one involved disappointed. As in the past discounted
IBA SS-1k certification is available upon ride completion in the
allotted time. Pre-registration only by Aug. 1. $50.00 entry fee
per motorcycle, includes hat, shirt, & pin. $90.00 for
couples. Extra goodies available to club members at cost,
if they volunteer to work the event, and are not entered as riders.

Natural Bridge Ride

This little gem is tucked away just 10 miles West of Douglas,
WY on I-25 just off Exit 151 County Rd 13, the 22 acre park built
around this natural wonder is a Converse County park that was
donated to the county by the original homesteader and the power
company that had a water turbine plant there at one time to supply
energy for the local mines. The ruins of the power plant still
stand near the entrance to the park. The natural stone formation
arches over 30 feet over the LaPrele Creek, the shade trees and
the well manicured grass lawns at the picnic areas are in stark
contrast to the wind blown prairies up on the Interstate.

for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers, and the top 3 couples.

Mt. Evans, (14,264 ft.). After that it's all down hill to Idaho Springs where we can partake of some of the world famous
Beau Jo's Pizza for lunch.

If you don't mind the cold and sometimes questionable road conditions
this can be a very entertaining outing. The Freewheelers have
been know to be the only club that rides their motorcycles to
this event. The Roamers put on a very entertaining show with everything
from kids on 2 wheel minibikes, to speedway Jawas with 2" long
spikes, racing on the ice. Spectator entry fee is $7.00 per person,
practice from 8:00am to 9:00am and races start at 10:00am.

Anniversary Colorado Motorcycle Show and Swap

This is the largest motorcycle show and swap meet in Colorado
and well worth the price of admission if only to see the great
artistry put into the bikes in the show. This year the show features
the popular Colorado Biker Build Off, Live Music, over 800 swap
meet spaces with vendors from all over the US, 125+ show bikes
on display. As usual the Charity is the Downs Syndrome Fund with
a custom Harley raffeled off to some lucky winner.
